Diamond Engagement Ring Style: Vintage Engagement Rings

A woman’s jewelry is a reflection of her personal style and there is perhaps no jewelry piece for which it is more important to match that style than her diamond engagement ring.  For women with a love of history, chivalry and days gone by, a Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring is just the thing.

The antique style of a vintage ring can include many design details that evoke romance.  Two of the most recognizable are Filigree and Milgrain.

Filigree

Delicate and intricate designs in gold, silver, or platinum, often described as lacy in appearance.  Filigree work is the ultimate in romantic, vintage style.  Filigree can be soft, light and feminine, with delicate leaves and hearts, or more geometric, with an angular lace pattern.

Milgrain

A thousand grains is the literal translation of this term, which originates from the French mille grains. It refers to the delicate beading in the metal along the edge of a jewelry design.  It is often used to frame a gemstone or add extra intricacy to a filigree design and is a prominent feature in vintage engagement ring designs.
Vintage styles often also include scrollwork, curving along the band or surrounding the stone.  And the halo setting, with small diamonds in a ring around the centre stone, is frequently combined with vintage details for a gorgeous antique look.

Regardless of the details, a vintage diamond engagement ring is a distinctive and beautiful choice that, for some women, is the perfect expression of their personal flair and love of romance.
